My work is based around functionality and production. I like repetition as over time it becomes easier and easier to replicate forms. There is a calmness that comes with it. I also value the interaction a person has with a vessel or ceramic object. For centuries ceramics have been made exclusively by hand by people like you and I; hand crafted and passed down through the generations. Used for functionality instead of decorations. Over time people have lost that sense of craftsmanship and intimacy from maker to user.
My hopes as a production artist are to bring back that intimacy and reconnect the users through form, surface alterations and texture. I find texture amazing as a maker. I like to add texture to pieces; Typically, I make a rough almost sharp texture so when a person interacts with the vessel, they become aware of what they are holding and almost scared to touch, but when they do they see that it may look sharp but is actually very comfortable to hold. I also mix that texture with carvings on their surface further adding to the touch sensory.
